Brief Course Overview
The online course “Open Education: fundamentals and approaches”, produced within the OpenMed project with the support of the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, aims to build capacity on Open Education and Open Educational Resources (OER) among universities in the South Mediterranean region.
After having taken this course, learners should be able to:
- Understand the potential advantages of adopting Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) in different contexts
- Recognise relevant concepts such as OER, OEP, open content, open pedagogy, open assessment
- Understand how content released under different kinds of open licences can be reused
- Distinguish different types of open licences and understand limitations in the reuse of open content
- Apply open licences to your own content
- Search for high quality OER
- Reuse and remix OER
- Recognise different types of open educational practices and initiatives
- Understand what MOOCs are and how to produce MOOCs
- Incorporate OEP into your teaching and learning
- Adapt OER and MOOCs to your specific context.
The training programme will cover five modules, running between September 2017-March 2018:
Module 1. Introducing Openness in Education
Module 2. Open Licensing and Copyright
Module 3. Creating and reusing OER
Module 4. Localising OER and MOOCs
Module 5. Open Educational Practices
Key dates
September 25-29, 2017, kick-off training week at Politecnico di Torino, to be followed by an online training phase from October 2017 to March 2018, according to the following calendar.
- October 2017: Modules 1 & 2, two related webinars, and attendance encouraged at local workshops
- November 2017: Modules 3 & 4, two related webinars, then local mid-course workshops encouraged at local level
- December 2017: Module 5 and related workshop
- January-March 2018: learners can concentrate on finalising project work
Tasks will be set after each module that will need to be completed / attempted by the following module. To be considered for this training cohort please complete the expression of interest form on the following pages. This form needs to be filled in by end of play 30th June, 2017. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application week commencing July 1st, 2017.
Please note that in order to be accepted, you must commit to attend at least 70% of the training cohort sessions and that you complete your project output by end of March in 2018.
